Tribalist wins at the Prix du Moulin
Trainer Roger Varian was left frustrated as his filly Charyn's bid to make history in the Group One Prix du Moulin came to an end last weekend, with 25-1 outsider Tribalist securing a surprise victory in the race.
Charyn was sent off as the marginal favourite for the race, having won her last three starts in impressive fashion. However, she was unable to match the pace set by Tribalist, who forged clear in the final furlong to win by two lengths.
Varian's disappointment
Speaking after the race, Varian said he was disappointed with Charyn's performance but added that she would be back next year for another shot at the race.
"She ran well, but she just wasn't good enough on the day," he said. "We'll give her a break now and then bring her back next year for another go at the race.
Tribalist's victory
Tribalist's victory was a surprise to many, as the horse had only won one of his previous eight starts.
However, the horse showed a good turn of foot in the Prix du Moulin and was able to hold off the challenge of Charyn in the final furlong.
Trainer Andrew Balding was delighted with Tribalist's performance, saying that the horse had shown his class in the race.
What's next for Charyn?
Charyn will now head to the paddocks for a break, while Tribalist is likely to be aimed at the Breeders' Cup Mile, which will be held at Keeneland Racecourse in Kentucky on November 5.
The Prix du Moulin is one of the most prestigious races in the European racing calendar, and it is disappointing for Varian and his team that Charyn was unable to make history in the race.
However, the filly is still only three years old, and she has plenty of time to add to her tally of Group One victories.
